Why an exporter cares
- Earnings from vegetable exports fell 68% after the European residue rules tightened (Business Daily, 16 March 2026).
- Flowers: 95 shipment rejections in the European Union in 2024, about 150 million shillings lost.
- One interception costs the whole consignment, starts an investigation, and raises inspection rates on later shipments.
Where the rules come from
- The banned, restricted and withdrawn lists are the Kenyan pest control regulator's own, fetched from its website on 21 Sept 2026.
- The waiting periods before harvest and the residue limits are illustrative. They are set per crop and per active ingredient, run to thousands of pairs and change often. A real installation loads the published tables and keeps them dated.
- Quintal checks records against these tables. It never says what to spray, when to spray it, or at what dose.
